Sue's email summarized a perfect Babe Retreat hosted by Ellen:
Ellen,
I'm pretty sure that your cousin, Sally, must have had your Cape home and your gracious and abundant hospitality in mind as an alternate backdrop for the title, "Another Side of Paradise". That's what it felt like hanging out with the Babes in your comfortable home where you've thought of every detail so that we felt welcome and sated. Thank you for taking care of all the grocery shopping (which was a lot for our 24+ hour gathering) and substantially all the cooking. So many delicious flavors to savor! The short ribs were a treat. Also, it's such a beautiful setting and I'm glad we got out a bit to enjoy the woods, pads, dunes, grasses. Jan and I loved staying in the barn and tried to be on our best behavior to hopefully merit being assigned there on a future visit, if we're so lucky. And thank you for the clever Book bags -- how do you do it all?!
Joyce, Dan has been happily eating the oat bars you packed for him/us. Thanks! And I'll surely make that coleslaw sometime.
Ava - Thanks so much for the ride and for the brilliant idea to bring along Amory so we could listen to his story and gain further understanding of F Scott Fitzgerald. Luckily you made a double batch of the squash green apple soup - yum.
I loved being with all of you although I missed Margot and Diane. Diane, I may try to visit you before the next Babes gathering to say hi and drop off your book bag and the chicks, too. (They're pretty well-behaved in their coop.)
Love,
Sue
